I didn’t know what made me step into the tattoo parlour, I’d never wanted one. In fact I’d always found them to be distasteful. Truth be told I walked by this old building every day and this was the first time I’d noticed the fantastic renovations. The converted factory was rather attractive and the interior was austere without being stark, a mixture of sterile and fashionable. There was only one person in the large shop and he gave me a welcoming smile. “So you’ve decided today is the day?” I frowned at the odd turn of phrase. I didn’t know what to say or do and just stood there speechless. The other man seemed to smile even wider and I was a little disconcerted with the fact he looked rather cherubic for a handsome young man. “Did you have a design in mind or would you rather choose from my exclusive assortment?” He lifted a massive portfolio onto the high counter and opened it to about the centre and turned it to face me. I flipped the pages a few times, skimming the drawings. I was about to turn the page again when a delicate blue swallow caught my attention.

Benson felt the walls closing in around him and tried to take some deep breaths but it was too late. The panic attack was in full bloom and all he could do was ride it out.

Penny found him sitting on the bed, eyes glazed over and he was as white as a sheet. She stepped over to him and set about tickling him. When he started laughing she encouraged him. “Come on silly! The paper work is filled out and good to go. Time to jilt the bride, right at the altar, for her brother.

“Time for a wedding.”

Kranz couldn’t believe the shit this freak was spouting. What was his problem and why wasn’t anyone shutting the guy up?
What the heck was going on? Derric wouldn’t look him straight in the eyes and the others were acting as if he’d just peed in the punch bowl. All he’d done was told the annoying, muscle bound Jersey Shore reject to leave his friend alone and suddenly the air seemed to get cold and quiet. “Did you just challenge me?” The other vampire’s nasally accent seemed to bounce around the room echoing off the walls and ringing in his ears. “Challenge you . . . what are we playing dodge ball or something?”
Not waiting for a response Kranz walked out of the club without a backward glance. This was just too strange to contemplate and his head hurt. He’d been through too much in these last weeks to waste his time on some smart ass. He needed to come to terms with his new existence and find out where he fit in to this new world.
“Man, you can’t confront Horn and just walk off in front of all those witnesses.” Derric had caught up and wasn’t happy.

Kranz watched Melaina’s face tighten as she adjusted the binoculars. This was it, the fight was about to finally begin and there was no turning back now. A glance at Derric showed both the fear and the faith in his eyes. He truly believed in Kranz; believed in his ability to protect them all and bring them safely into the new era. Kranz was humbled to know that this whole group trusted him to protect them. So Kranz was neck deep in vampire hostilities and politics and now the battle was on. He was determined to save his new family.

The Pack
He’d only been gone a few minutes and there was a strange woman in bed with his lover. Domenic seemed to be touching her in a professional manner after all, he was a chiropractor. Why had she come to his bedroom and not his patient rooms next door? When Jed took an angry step towards the bed a deep growl alerted him to the man in the corner. Jed hadn’t noticed him or the two others with him. When Dom had tried to explain how close the pack was Jed couldn’t comprehend it, now he was seeing the big picture.

The haunting melody ripped through him. The sad tune wafted through his subconscious, waking him from a solid slumber. It called to his lonely soul as it echoed in the carnivorous room and through the winding hallways of the large stone factory they currently called home. He shuffled down the metal stairs, quietly so as not to disturb the performer and was shocked to see his friend sitting at the large piano. Not wanting to be noticed he propped himself against the wall and settled in to listen to the beautiful music he had no idea Derric was capable of producing.

He had no idea how long he stood there transfixed by the poignant harmonies. And then suddenly a melancholy tune almost felled him. Kranz felt like a complete pansy ass! Here he was supposed to be a big strong leader of this coven and a song had brought him to tears. Derric had a voice that seemed to crawl into Kranz’s veins and pump through him. Derric was the heartbeat Kranz was missing. However, he had done such a fabulous job guarding himself from romantic entanglements that he had completely convinced the other man they had no future together.

The Sister

Peter felt like a dick but he wanted his sister gone. He hated keeping secrets but his family wouldn’t understand about his relationship with his partner. Peter grew up in a conservative small town. Rich was not happy sleeping on a friend’s couch. Peter tried to convince his sister to stay in a hotel but she said she wanted to spend time with her brother. She turned with a slight frown, “So mom said you had a boyfriend living with you. Where are you hiding him and when can I meet him? I promised to tell them all about him.”
